The Amherst Loop

This ride is an over-the-mountain loop heading South from Brownsburg. It’s a quiet, less traveled, scenic ride. Navigate to Buena Vista and take route 60 South to Amherst. Stop by the scenic James River at one of the many stop-offs and/or hikes along the way. Amherst is a very small town and (tip: I would recommend the Filling Station to eat and drink – good selection of food and tap beers as well as bottled beers). (tip: there is also a great antique store called Warehouse antiques – it’s awesome!) Then take Route 29 South towards Lynchburg (tip: visit Historic Lynchburg, Virginia – the River District in particular) and pick-up 501 North in Sheffield, Virginia thru Big Island and towards Glasgow – also a very scenic and unique ride. Once in Glasgow continue on 501 North back to Buena Vista, then back to Brownsburg. (tip: on the last leg of this ride, I would navigate to Kerrs Creek, past Lexington on route 60, and from there back to Brownsburg – re-start your navigation from Kerrs Creek to Brownsburg as it will bring you via very nice, scenic country backroads). You’ll experience plenty of mountain turns, rivers & streams, and scenery on this route.
