The Blue Ridge Maintains foothills ride includes hugging the Blue Ridge Parkway foothills [‘BRP’], starting in Vesuvius, Virginia (tip: stop for breakfast or lunch at Gertie’s, depending upon when you start your trip) and driving as far North as possible (tip: to make faster time you can drive on 11-North and/or 81-North) and even explore a bit of both however, we prefer the slower paced foothills drive. The goal with this first part of the trip is to navigate to Luray, Virginia, just North of Harrisonburg. (tip: once there visiting Luray Caverns is a must – it’s our favorite Cavern tour of the many cave tour options – with amazing size, scale and natural beauty). (tip: then visit nearby historic downtown Luray for lunch – it’s beautiful with many shops, restaurants, and cafe’s). From there you can take Skyline drive North (aka Blue Ridge Parkway) or the Blue Ridge Parkway South to Montebello, Virginia (tip: stop at the Montebello Country store – it’s a hoot!) You’re now only a 30-minute drive to the Old Brownsburg Store B&B – get back and enjoy a nice evening meal or firepit session! total drive time is a range from 4-7 hours drive depending upon how much you explore and stop (tip: based on your energy level mid-point in this trip, you can maintain the scenic route or accelerate parts of the trip).
