Crabtree Falls

Crabtree Falls boasts the highest vertical drop waterfall east of the Mississippi River and is located just 6-miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway, just past Montebello, Virginia. There are several scenic hikes (easier and more challenging options). The scenery and waterfalls alone are worth the trip. The full hike is 1.7 miles long, one-way, which doesn’t sound like much however, the hike is fairly challenging given the vertical incline (tip: depending upon the hikers in your group you can do the full hike or a partial hike – note that there are a number of scenic views of the falls throughout the hike. (tip: when returning back to Brownsburg take a detour down Irish Creek Road (a few miles from Montebello, on your left as your driving back to Brownsburg). (tip: at the bottom of Irish Creek re-start navigation and you’re only about 20 minutes from Brownsburg). Irish Creek is off-the-beaten path and makes you feel like you’re in another century – very rustic with some nice rivers, streams, rustic camps, Off-Gris cabins and scenery to match – bring your camera!
