Meet the Owner: Bill McGough
Bill moved to Rockbridge County (Lexington) with his wife Catherine after purchasing their first ‘fixer-upper’ in the area on Route 39 in Lexington – a 12 minute drive from the B&B. Bill and Catherine are originally from the Tri-state area; both were initially raised in NYC and Westchester County NY respectively, then they moved further upstate (NY & CT). As part of Bill’s career, they moved with the family several times – Pawing, NY to Dusseldorf, Germany to Northern NJ, to Wake Forest, NC, to Saint Louis, MO then to New Fairfield, CT before settling in Rockbridge County in 2018. They we’re taken in by the areas natural beauty, the many outdoor amenities, a simpler life, and the fact that almost every turn you take seems to be a ‘post card’ picture taking opportunity. Bill and Catherine have three wonderful children and two amazing Grandchildren and enjoy traveling, motorcycling, hiking and walks, camping, skiing, and yes renovation work!
Their love of home renovation (Bill is design/build and Catherine is design & decor) initially started in their mid-20’s out of need – they built their first home with support from family and friends. They also renovated several other properties as part of their various moves. This background made the Old Brownsburg Store B&B a perfect post-Retirement project. This project became a family project and included excellent support from our son Bill and brother-in-law Jeff, along with several select contractors to make this a reality! Together this team turned this renovation into a lasting multi-generational, passion project which we’re all very proud of! We saw potential in an old Historic Building where the original brick building was built circa 1815 and is nestled at the center of the two main roads in Brownsburg – literally on the old Stage-Coach road. We purchased the building in the Fall of 21′ and the rest is history.
